A Brief History of Orbem Scott memorial library, Reformed Theological Seminary Mkar In 1971 when the Reformed Theological College of Nigeria now Reformed Theological Seminary Mkar opened its doors, there were no books for a library. Donations were urgently requested. By August 1972, books that had been donated had been classified. In 1974 work on the library building which is now called the “old library “. By December 1975, the library building had been completed and had 2200 books on the shelves. The request for books continued; People and organizations continued to respond
WHO WE ARE
The library was named the ORBEM SCOTT MEMORIAL LIBRARY by the NKST synod in 1977 in memory of the Rev. W.M. Scott, a missionary to Tiv land from South Africa from 1932 to 1964. Rev. Scott was named “Orbem” meaning “Man of Peace”, Ortese Bem worked tirelessly on the translation of the Bible into Tiv. He also wrote commentaries in Tiv on several books of the Bible. (See “The Life History of Rev. W.M. Scott” for more details, as well as the letter from Mr. J.W.Kotze.) Mrs. Peter Ipema, worked as Librarian from 1978 through May 1991.Since then several others served the seminary on the same capacity. In 2015, Rev. Tersur Amene. CLN was employed as Assistant Librarian, in 2017; he grown to the rank as substantive Seminary Librarian.
